On 17 and 18 May E-Business Consulting participated, also this year as a sponsor, with an ad hoc stand, at the Netcomm eCommerce Forum 2023. The event was a great success with over 30,000 visitors, 25,000 of which live.
Beyond the commercial aspect, the event is characterized by 3 plenary conferences and 175 thematic workshops in which everyone can develop and explore any issues of interest in the digital field.
eCommerce Number in Italy
From an operational point of view, total digital retail is now worth 71 billion euros and is the main growth driver of the Italian economy. It contributed 40.6% to the growth in total turnover of economic activities in the five-year period 2016-2020, involving over 723 thousand companies. The eCommerce penetration index, i.e. the share of online purchases on the total Retail, is equal to 12%, remained stable compared to 2022, and the number of online buyers in Italy stood at 33 million in the first quarter of 2023.
On the other hand, there are 24.4 million habitual online buyers in Italy and they carry out 90% of transactions, with receipts above the average, so much so that they are the authors of 93% of online purchases.
According to the forecasts of the eCommerce Observatory, online purchases by Italians will grow by +13% in 2023 to reach 54 billion euros at the end of this year. However, we need to distinguish the average growth between services +22% and products +8%. On the product side, there is a slowdown in post-pandemic growth and the current increase is mainly due to the effect of inflation, while a contraction is underway in terms of absolute number of products.
eCommerce and Smartphone
The smartphone is the link between the store and the digital world. On the one hand more than half of online purchases are made today via a mobile device such as a tablet or smartphone on the other it is the digital touchpoint most often activated before defining a purchase and to enhance the shopping experience at the point of sale It is also interesting to point out how many DTC brands have slowed down their investments in B2C to focus on the development of the distribution channel and B2B projects, perhaps also due to the increase in advertising costs in many sectors.
