The lockdown situation linked to the health emergency has had effects on the use of the internet by Italians. In May, people using the Internet from Computers or Mobile (Smartphones and Tablets) increased by 2% compared to pre-covid time, so 44,1 million users. We underline that this increase regards in particular the use of PC that is increased +5,8% with a medium time per person of 1 hour and 32 minutes.
Analyzing the data by average day in May, the total audience is represented by 35.069 million users divided according to the following percentages: 29.268 million smartphone users (64,8% of Italians aged 18-74 years), 4.774 millions of users from tablets (10,6% of Italians aged 18-74) and 12.928 million from computers (21,7% of Italians from 2 years upwards). The time per person on the average day is 3 hours and 01 minutes.
On the average day, increases were recorded in all registry bands, with differences dictated by age and lifestyles. Generally, the Computer audience sees 25% of men online (7.463 million) and 18,3% of women (5.465 million). The greatest increases are recorded among the younger population.
Turning our gaze to the use of online from the different geographical areas, we highlight that the North-East and Center areas recorded a slightly greater increase than the others as regards the use on an average day by all the devices detected.
Going into detail on the time spent in different age groups and by gender, we can see that men spend on average 2 hours and 50 minutes on the average day while women spend 3 hours and 12 minutes. As regards the different age groups, the use of the Internet in May is: 94,9% of 18-24 populations; il 99% of 25-34 years old; il 98,2% of the range 35-44; 94,7% of 45-54; 86,7% of the range 55-64 ed 39,8% of over 65.
