Since the beginning of May, Instagram has started to experience changes in the graphics of the main feed: apparently Instagram is preparing to revolutionize its user experience by making the feed very similar to that of TikTok.
Confirmation of the upcoming change came via Twitter, where Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced the company’s next moves: Instagram will soon offer users an even more immersive experience since in the feed the photos and videos will be in full screen, resulting just like opening the TikTok application.
In his video-tweet Adam Mosseri explains how "already since the beginning of the year I talked about how important video and messaging are for the future of Instagram", continuing then to describe how the display will become "full screen" with a vertical format of 9:16, the same used for the Stories.
A whole new feed
The new graphic eliminates the display of photographs in the classic square format, showing them instead full screen, the captions and descriptions are much less obvious and partially cover the images, even the buttons of "Like", "Comment" and "Share" will change their positioning. Different is also the system with which you scroll horizontally photos of galleries, and the scroll down is no longer continuous but content by content.
It is still unknown where the Stories strip will be moved and given the success they have had and continue to have for the platform, it would not be a smart move to eliminate it.
This will be an important change that sees Instagram put aside its main format, that of the post image, to give more importance to the new trend of mini-videos or short videos launched by TikTok, to which all competitors are directing their updates. Born as the social of photos, now also Instagram is changing course to adapt to the needs of the user.
So, is the basic idea to transform the Instagram feed as TikTok? Highly probable, on the other hand TikTok remains the social of the moment, that’s why many other applications attempt to emulate its functionality.
To date, however, the novelty is still being tested by only a small number of users, even though the selection criterion used is not yet known. Only later, if the test is successful, the Instagram feed will be transformed, and this new version will be made available to everyone.
