In July 2013, active users who connected to the Internet at least once using a computer are 27 million, showing a decrease of -0,1% if compared to July 2012.
Compared to 2012, Internet audience in the average day decreased by -4% arriving to 12,8 million of users on average: the target audience that appears to be more active during the average day is (typical working age) the age group between 35 and 54 years (48% of active users on the average day).
By making a distinction between by gender the analysis show that, on the average day, 7 million men are online. The age group which is more connected on the average day is the one between 35 to 54 years, that’s to say the 45,4%. As for women, on the average day, there are 5,7 million women online. Even here the predominant age group is the one between 35 and 54 years (51,4%).
The number of active users on the average day decreases in the month of July 2013, if compared to July 2012 as well as the average daily time spent to surfing the Web (1 hour and 19 minutes in July 2012 and 1 hour and 17 minutes in July 2013); the average number of pages viewed per person suffers a substantial decline, amounting to -14,7% (from 136 pages viewed in 2012 to 116 in 2013).
This probably indicates on one hand a continuous improvement of technologies related to the speed of the Internet browsing and on the other side an Italian audience which is increasingly oriented to the use of the Web as the predominant source of information.
The time range between 15.00 pm and 18.00 pm shows the peak of active users (52,3% of active users). Following we can find the time range between 12.00 pm to 15.00 pm (51,9%), the one between 18.00 pm to 21.00 pm (49.7%) and those between 9.00 am to 12.00 pm (46,1%).
The geographical area which includes the South and the Islands is the area with the largest number of active users during the average day: 4,1 million that’s to say the 21,4% of the target population. North-West has 3,3 million of active users (24,6%), the Centre 2,1 million (24%) and finally the North-East with 1,8 million (22,6%).
