On 16th May 2012 was held by Netcomm the 7th edition of the Ecommerce Forum, an event dedicated to the evolving scenario and market trends of ecommerce in Italy.
During this forum, final data for 2011 and next year previsions for ecommerce were presented by the Ecommerce Observatory of Politecnico di Milano.
Results in 2011 confirm what was expected by the sector, with a total volume of sell from Italian ecommerce websites over 8 billion euros, seeing a growth compared to 2010 by +19%.
Regarding 2012, estimates foresee a further increase for ecommerce in Italy by +18%, passing 9,5 billion of euros of turnover.
Sectors expected to face the most relevant growth for ecommerce in 2012 are:
- Apparel +30%, but with a small decreasing if compared to the growing trend in the past years;
- Technology +25%, a growing trend if compared to the increase in 2010;
- Grocery +19%, a growth with a decreasing trend compared to the last one;
- Insurance +17%, also seeing a growth in a decreasing trend over the years.
The balance between online shopping done by Italian internet users on foreign websites and online shopping done by foreign internet users on Italian websites is still negative.
This shows a lack of supply by Italian companies online (only 4% have an ecommerce). Top 20 players hold 70% ecommerce turnover realized in Italy.
M-commerce continue to see a triple-digit growth (+143%), even if total volumes are not that relevant.
